Our 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Adhesive EC-2216 B/A Gray is a flexible, two-part, room-temperature curing epoxy adhesive that provides high shear and peel strength, making this an ideal adhesive for the most demanding aerospace applications. It maintains bond strength at low temperatures and stands up to challenging environmental conditions.

You can use this high-performance epoxy adhesive to replace mechanical fasteners, screws, rivets and spot welds. 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Adhesive EC-2216 B/A Gray is excellent for bonding a variety of substrates such a metals and many plastics. It can be dispensed in duo-pak cartridges for use with the 3M™ EPX™ Applicator System for minimal waste and professional results. The mix ratio is 2:3 and the adhesive provides a 90 minute work life to allow time to adjust fit prior to setting. The adhesive reaches handling strength in approximately 12 hours and is fully cured in 7 days (at 72° F /22° C), but can be accelerated with heat. This epoxy is excellent for creating bonds that can be used at cryogenic temperatures. It’s widely used for composite laminate edge sealing.

3M EC-2216 B/A is a two-part epoxy known for its exceptional flexibility. Unlike standard rigid adhesives, it can withstand extreme vibration, thermal expansion, and contraction. This makes it the premier choice for bonding materials with different expansion rates, such as metal to plastics or rubber.
In aviation and defense, EC-2216 is used for structural bonding of airframe components, potting electronic assemblies, and sealing parts that experience high mechanical stress. Its ability to maintain a strong bond under cryogenic conditions also makes it a favorite for space-related applications.
The standard mix ratio is 2:3 by volume (Base to Accelerator) or 1:1 by weight. It provides a generous work life of 90 minutes (for a 100g mass at 23°C), allowing technicians plenty of time to align complex parts before the curing process begins.
