What is Eastman Turbo Oil 2197 used for?

Eastman Turbo Oil 2197 is a 5-centistoke High Thermal Stability (HTS) synthetic lubricant designed for the most demanding aircraft turbine engines. It is specifically formulated to handle the high temperatures of modern engine designs, effectively preventing carbon buildup (coking) in bearing areas and oil scavenger lines

Eastman 2197 is qualified to the MIL-PRF-23699 Class HTS (High Thermal Stability) and SAE AS5780 Class HPC (High Performance Capability) specifications. It is the leading HTS oil globally, approved by all major engine manufacturers including Boeing, Airbus, and GE.

While both are 5-cSt oils, Eastman 2197 is an HTS-class oil designed for higher heat resistance, whereas Eastman 2380 is an STD-class oil optimized for load-carrying and low-temperature start-ups. Choose 2197 for engines prone to oil coking and 2380 for turboprops or accessories requiring high load protection.

Because it exceeds the requirements of both older and newer engines, many airlines use Eastman 2197 as a fleet-wide lubricant. Its superior oxidation resistance and thermal stability reduce maintenance costs by extending component life and keeping oil systems cleaner for longer intervals.
